Welcome to the CAMH Quick Start Guide to launching a mental health ministry in your Asian or Asian American church.
Why is this important? Because “Churches Should Help Normalize Mental Health for Asian Americans.”
If your church would like a ready-made program or turnkey solution, you could choose from one of these mental health resources to get your church started pronto.
Start with Prayer and Wisdom
May we suggest this before your church starts a mental health ministry? Assemble a team of volunteers and begin with a season of prayer. “If any of you lacks wisdom, you should ask God, who gives generously to all without finding fault, and it will be given to you.” (James 1:5)
Then, have this team go through The Sanctuary Course and have a healthy discussion to discern next steps for your church. This eight-session study guide explores key mental health topics and examines meaningful ways to offer companionship, support recovery, and promote wellbeing.
Developing a Mental Health Ministry
Our basic model for mental health ministry consists of these 5 ingredients: sermons + stories + seminars + support groups + sabbath. Yes, there is much more than your church could do, but these 5 basic things will help your church to improve its mental health and wellness when done on a regular basis. One church got started with this in just 2 months!
We Can Help with Experience and Expertise
What Christian Asian Mental Health provides is concierge service, so your church can have a personal coach to customize your ministry plan, design your strategy, and get help selecting from the many mental health resources available.
We recognize that it’s complicated and there are many considerations in developing a mental health ministry that best fits your church and its neighboring community. That’s why we are offering to have a personalized and relational approach in co-laboring together.
